Shawnee Marriages 1843 - 1857The Methodist missionaries began to serve the Shawnee tribe within 10 years of their arrival to the Shawnee Reservation. While many of the Shawnee had family units according to their own customs, the Methodists encouraged them to have an additional Christian marriage.
