1867 Scarritt's Chapel Class

Scarritt's Chapel was an early Methodist Church and school. The land was secured by Thomas Johnson and was located on a portion of John Boyle's land close to Indian Creek (now where ADM is located in Overland Park). Once farmers put up fences around their land, it became more difficult for children to get to the school via horseback, and the school was discontinued.

This image was donated by Carol Rollins, a descendant of Rev. Charles Boles, a Methodist Minister who served as a circuit Minister in the area. Transcribed by Linda K. Lewis, 7 Nov 2006.
