Lanesfield Cemetery, ca. 1860s

Lost Cemetery

Center of Section 32, Township 14S, Range 22E

This cemetery was located on the north (rear) side of the Lanesfield school, near present-day Edgerton. Though the cemetery was never marked on any Atlas, it is known through the history of Lanesfield and Edgerton and through the Lanesfield School Museum. No listing of the names of those buried has survived. The area is now part of a grown-over field, no headstones or other markers are visible, and the exact physical location is unknown.

When the town of Lanesfield moved to be on the railroad line and became Edgerton, some or all of the graves were removed to the Edgerton Cemetery. Many decades later, a gravestone was recovered from the old cemetery site and is curated by the Johnson County Museum and photographed below.
