About the Burial Ground

The Adams burial ground is described on pages 6 and 7 of the "History of Captain's Creek Community" compiled by Joy Lefmann Scheunemann. According to the Lefmann Land History, "Some of the Adams family members died during a smallpox epidemic. At that time, the James Finley family lived on the land adjoining the timber land. They gave permission for the Adams family to bury their dead on the Finley land." The author mentions contact with this Shawnee Indian family, and cites the location of gravestones. The location of a stone for Joseph Adams was mentioned twice in this narrative.
